Today, my morning meditation during my earth run in the forest was magical. Three ravens flew directly in my path, one of which nearly touched my face. I have a lot of raven totem energy; several of these magical birds stay at my front door everyday as if they are our pet ravens, coming and going as they please.
The lake was beautiful and glistening. When we got to the Island two crows were cawing. They seemed to be screaming at me. Gerard takes people to this island regularly and has for over 50 years. He said the ravens usually take off when people come; however, this was not the case for me. In fact, they followed me around the island cawing at me the entire time and swooping over my head. The island has a holy well which thousands of pilgrims have visited for healing over the last several thousand years. The artifacts on the island date back more than 7,000 years.
But when I arrived home a couple of hours later, my husband Seth was calling for me to come upstairs to my meditation room where two ravens had somehow gotten in and were tearing everything up.
When I reflected on what this was all about, I thought perhaps the events were something from a past life. I do know that I felt a strong connection to the island and felt for sure that it was not my first time being there. As a spirit animal, the crow is associated with life’s mysteries and magic. As a totem and spirit guide the bird provides insight and the means to supporting intentions.
But when I arrived home a couple of hours later, my husband Seth was calling for me to come upstairs to my meditation room where two ravens had somehow gotten in and were tearing everything up. They were flinging my crystals around. They took my candles and ceremonial tools and were flying about, throwing these around the room, too. Then I remembered that, although they are a sign of luck, ravens and crows are also associated with the archetype of the trickster, a character who possesses intelligence and secret knowledge and uses it to play tricks, or to steal things, or upset the normal rules of behavior. They may playfully disrupt the social and natural order, so you have to re-establish it on a new basis. Is that what they were doing to me?
I decided to ask them when they finished what they had come to do, if they could please leave my room in peace.
Then they flew away.
It’s amazing when you work with ancient practices and connect with the spirit world how magic really happens all around you.
