The golden thread is a representation of your intuition; the inner voice that is always gently whispering to you, that sometimes you choose to ignore, that perhaps you have shut down so much that it has stopped trying to talk to you anymore. This is the higher self, the higher conscious level of yourself that comes straight from Source and flows directly from the Universe. When you are following that golden thread, it allows you to be truly on your path and in your purpose. Ultimately, home within yourself.
Instead of that final destination, it reminds you that the journey is what is important.
When you are ignoring your intuition, you feel tight in your body. The body speaks to us if you are willing to listen. First, the universe will give a gentle little nudge that one may not even notice. Then, it will give you a shout and then eventually it pushes you down. In this way, why not tap in every second of every day to your higher self and to your heart. When you’re not living in your intuition it feels like you need to control everything as if there isn’t enough time in the day. You can feel in a bit of a fog and you don’t necessarily listen to yourself and are always running to everybody else for the answers.
You can feel a tightness in your stomach or your heart. I invite you, if at any moment throughout your day, you feel a tightness in your stomach and your heart, just stop and breathe. Exhale. Come back to connection. Nausea is also a common symptom. If we are in a relationship and we keep going back whether it’s a friendship or a significant other, we know it is time for us to let that go and we can feel nausea when we come into their presence. It might be media that pulls your energy down. Your energy will decrease. Come back into connection with self and come home into your soul and into your spirit.
Things that can keep us disconnected from that golden thread and from ourselves:
1. Holding onto pain and hurt from childhood.
It’s time to let go of any old stories where you were the victim. Even though they may have happened to you as a child, you don’t have to hold onto it or carry it any longer. When we are attached to that pain, how can we truly be connected to our heart? It’s time to release that and decide once and for all, it’s no longer holding you prisoner and you are choosing a more peaceful path. Release old beliefs about yourself. Even the need to always have your mind on. If you want to be connected to yourself, you have to create space each and every day for quietness, to quiet the mind. It doesn’t have to be meditation. Find what feels really good. Maybe it’s knitting or gardening or being out in nature where you give yourself that gift.
2. Not forgiving yourself or others
Start a forgiveness ritual. Perhaps every night before you go to sleep, offer forgiveness, be it to yourself or to somebody who may have said something to you that day that hurt your feelings. Offer forgiveness to them. If there are parents, siblings, friends from childhood, every night offer forgiveness. Then get to the stage where you offer love, acceptance, and understanding.
3. Self-harm or numbing
Forms of self-harm or numbing such as alcohol. Moderation is fine but it’s to the degree that you use such things to numb yourself that it’s virtually impossible to connect to your higher self. Things such as over-eating, over-working, or any of these addictive behaviors. If you’re going to get addicted to something, let it be meditation, breath, or being out in nature. You will know that you’re not connected to your higher self when you’re always asking for advice, approval, and not looking inside of yourself. One of my favorite sayings is, “What you think of me is none of my business.”
4. Staying busy without giving space for quiet time
I understand that there are many things such as a family, job, taking care of our homes, friends, working out, self-care, etc. However, if you don’t make some quiet time a priority for you, then how can you hear that inner voice. Lack of self-care is also a way that we block connection with ourselves. If we are living our lives from a place of exhaustion that turns into resentment. These are the things that keep us from being deeply connected.
Here are ways to stay connected:
1. Seeing things from a bird’s eye view
If there are big things going on your life and you want to tap into your intuition, connect with the earth, your heart, and higher self, and then soar like the bird. Allow yourself to look down as your higher self looking down on the situation. Remove yourself from the emotion of it, rise above it and see it for what it really is. When there is a situation that is challenging to find clarity around, give space, whether it be to that person or situation. Be really honest with yourself. When you’re talking to your intuition, you can’t be anything but honest because you are looking yourself deeply in the soul.
2. Meditate 10 minutes every day
If it’s not meditation, find what your peaceful activity is and dedicate at least 10 minutes a day to doing it. If you want to go deeper and deeper into your higher self, it’s important to come into stillness. This can be through lighting a candle, painting, gazing and watching moving water, or spending time in nature.
3. Regularly check in with yourself
Check in with yourself for every decision you make. We are so quick to say ‘yes’ to things and answer right away but that we may not really be in alignment for us. If you are one of those people who are always quick to say yes, I’m going to invite you to try something else. I invite you to start changing those patterns.
For every single decision, even if it seems small, I invite you to ground, connect to your higher self, and check in. Take time. Give yourself permission to take time to get back to people and their requests. You can sit with it and be with it, rather than rushing around and being in that state of busyness. Over time, the more that you check in and listen to your inner voice, the more natural this will become.
Start listening and acting on really small messages. It may feel really weird at first. Every time you follow that small message, it will lead to the next message and to the next. All of a sudden, you are following that magical golden thread and it will take you to an amazing way of life and feeling.
When the decisions get really big and you have fear around it, take even longer. Go even deeper into yourself, meditate, and journal. Journaling is allowing your hand to be a secretary straight through your higher self. I think it’s way more powerful to write than type on a computer. You will be amazed what can come through on that piece of paper. Allow it to flow. Allow the tears or whatever wants to move through you, move.
If you are in fear, journal about what the fear is. Journal about what the worst case scenario about what could happen. This can also come through the form of song writing or drawing as what they write or draw may be guidance within itself.
Connect, connect, connect, and the answers will always be there.
You must practice.
Talk to yourself through journaling, through the silence, even in your dream time.
4. Have a dream journal by your bed
Before you go to sleep, ask for guidance on whatever you’re seeking guidance on. Allow that to come through. When you wake up, write that dream down. You will be amazed with what comes through.
5. The Body Talks
Listen to your body. Listen to your body when you make decisions. Notice if you feel a tightness in your chest, shoulders, or gut. There is a reason why it is called our ‘gut instinct.’ Do you ever notice when you meet somebody and even though they are all smiles, you round over your shoulders? You notice that your throat feels stuck? You feel an energy. Even if they are smiling at you, you know that maybe it’s not the highest vibration that is being exchanged. Do not ignore that and do not second guess yourself. There are so many ways that spirit connect with us and give us messages every day when you are open. You have to choose to be open in your body, mind, and soul.

If you just keep hearing the same message from different people, that’s usually your higher self trying to get through to you. Notice the numbers you see and be curious about what the numerology may be. That’s a way for your higher guidance to be able to reach you.
Your intuition will start off very quietly. The more you listen, the louder it gets and the more powerful it gets. Just like exercising any muscle, you use the weight every single day and you will build that muscle. There will be so many rewards just like when you go to the gym and exercise. My invitation to you is to come home to yourself.
My invitation to you is give yourself this tremendous gift.
