What is it like to have a successful Feng Shui business?

Tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m Rachelle Hicks. I became a certified Feng Shui consultant in 2017 with the International Feng Shui School. I have been working with Feng Shui ever since and have integrated a few other practices, which has been really, really interesting just to see holistically how so many different things can work in concert with each other.
A little bit about me. I have a background in teaching yoga, which I was doing before I learned Feng Shui. I’ve always been interested in holistic wellness and just various different ways to live a well-balanced, conscious and meaningful life. To add to my yoga training, I started learning Feng Shui with Amanda, and I just absolutely adored it. I love homes. I love making spaces feel magical and wonderful and cozy. And then I began working with the program, the Feng Shui program, called Powerhouse, which is created by two of Amanda’s other students, other certified Feng Shui consultants. I work with them now, and we were all trained by Amanda, which is wonderful that we all have the same background. I’ve been working with Feng Shui ever since I became certified.
What made you decide to become a certified master in Feng Shui?
I find that this one’s funny because I find that people will often say, “Oh, I found love through Feng Shui”, but I actually found Feng Shui through love. My partner, my boyfriend, actually went to a talk that Amanda did in Dublin years ago before she moved back to Ireland. And when he met me, he said, “You should really learn about Feng Shui. I think you would like it.” I didn’t really know anything about Feng Shui, but I decided to do some research on it. I just ended up really enjoying it and then I met Amanda subsequently, and the rest is history, as they say.
What is your favorite part of being a Feng Shui consultant?
The people that I get to work with are certainly my favorite part of being a Feng Shui consultant. I absolutely just love the depth and the meaning that you can experience with people and when people really understand how Feng Shui can bring balance into their home, but also have such a huge impact in their own personal development. I think it’s just a very profound way to spend time in the world and to enjoy life. I love working with people.
What does a day in your life typically look like?
After learning Feng Shui, I began studying astrology. I’m three and a half years into a four-year-long professional astrologers training program. When I first began three and a half years ago studying astrology, I thought that that would be my next step. But as I’ve studied astrology, I’ve gotten more into Feng Shui, which is really interesting. Now I kind of combine them. I work both with astrology and with Feng Shui, and it’s a really unbelievable combination because, for example, you may or may not have heard of Mercury retrograde times, but when we enter into a time of Mercury retrograde, things can be turned upside down. Things can maybe not go according to plan, and it’s really beneficial when you’re working with someone with Feng Shui to have the background of the cosmic weather patterns that we’re experiencing. Because we might have put in all of our remedies correctly and the Feng Shui might be just right on point, we might be entering into a Mercury retrograde time. There is another layer of how you’re going to experience your remedies and your Feng Shui, which I really, really love.
I do a lot of my Feng Shui work now under the umbrella of Powerhouse. I work with groups of people and I do weekly calls on Feng Shui just helping people with their homes and their remedies and any adjustments that they might need to make. There are so many different ways to actually implement remedies into your home. I get to answer questions about how and what is the best way to do that in your particular unique space. I study a lot of astrology, and I work a lot with astrology, and as I said in concert with Feng Shui. All of my work is remote, which I really enjoy. I love being in my own comfy, cozy home. In my own Feng Shui at home and working remotely with people and having all these different connections that the internet has allowed for us in this modern-day, which I really, really love.
What would you say has been your proudest moment as a Feng Shui consultant?
My proudest moment as a Feng Shui consultant. There are so many examples that I can think about, but when someone comes to me after they have worked with their home and worked with their remedies and someone says that they just feel this immense confidence and joy in their life. That to me is everything. It’s wonderful when we get these miraculous things that occur. You put a water fountain outside, and all of a sudden you get this sum of money that comes in out of nowhere. Those are amazing, but when someone can say to me, “You know what, Rachelle, I’m really experiencing on a consistent basis, regardless of the situations and circumstances, I’m really experiencing this sense of peace and balance and confidence in myself and joy in my life.” That, to me, is everything.
What do you think is the most important part of Feng Shui?
The most important part of Feng Shui, this is not a quote from me, this is something that my partner said. “The most important part of Feng Shui is when you’re working with your remedies when you’re adding remedies to your space. Yes, your remedies are rebalancing your home, but the most powerful thing is when you allow the remedies to make a change in you.” I think that’s just really profound because the remedies will have a huge impact on your space, but it’s the change that occurs within you that I think is so powerful and so beautiful. I think that’s the most important part is understanding that this isn’t just something happening outside of you. It’s happening through you and that’s pretty amazing.
Are there any words of wisdom you would offer to someone interested in becoming a Feng Shui consultant?
First, do it in your own life. Really just embody the teachings of Feng Shui. Keep the Feng Shui diary as to where you started to adjust your own environment and add your own Feng Shui and then really take good notes so that you have good examples and live it. Live Feng Shui. It’s so much a second nature thing to me now. Even when I’m looking at Airbnbs or hotels for traveling, I am looking at them through a Feng Shui lens because I’m going to be there for a little while. It’s just second nature to me now. So live it, live it in your own life first and then allow that wisdom to spread.

I can’t recommend it highly enough. Yes, you can work with people actually doing Feng Shui consultations. But if you’re just living Feng Shui, you’re going to be a teacher of it regardless. If you go off on another branch of some type of holistic learning, or if you keep the job that you have now, but you just have Feng Shui in your life, you’re going to be teaching it regardless of whether you set up a website and a business. As soon as you start embodying Feng Shui, you’re going to be teaching it.
